The Lead Learners, a consortium of nearly 30 schools in northern/central Indiana and southern Michigan. You may know us from our original beginnings as All Write.
The consortium’s original mission was to provide professional development for writing instruction, wrapping strong arms around instructional coaches who were focused on supporting writing workshop in classrooms.
Over the years we’ve grown. Many coaches have shifted from only a writing focus to all content areas, and All Write has expanded from writing to reading to math.
In June 2018 long time director Mindy Hoffar will retire. The Dekko Foundation, who lavishly inspired and funded the start up and growth of All Write, is again supporting us with a grant titled, All Write: The Next Generation.
Dekko is helping us to make a smooth transition to a new director, as well as claiming a plot online. Through Dekko’s considerate grant, we have engaged in strategic planning, establishing an online presence, and added two half time positions to the team.
I’m Ruth Ayres, the incoming director, and am learning the ropes from Mindy this year. Inga Omondi is the tech coordinator. She is working diligently to spread the word about our many professional development events.
Our dream for this blog is to feature the voices of instructional leaders (teachers, coaches, administrators and students) to share the remarkable work happening to empower student-centered learning in the consortium.
Ruth Ayres – Incoming Consortium Coordinator
Currently I’m an instructional writing coach for Wawasee Community School Corporation, a school district in northern Indiana. I support kindergarten to middle school teachers in all content areas. The majority of my time is spent alongside k-8 teachers encouraging and supporting them as they teach writers using writing workshop.
I am also the upcoming Director of the All-Write Consortium, a professional development organization serving the needs of Indiana and Michigan educators.
I’ve taught middle and high school writers and readers. When I’m with kindergarten writers, I think I missed my calling.
I have a bachelor’s degree in secondary education, with a major in biology and chemistry, and a minor in English. My master’s degree is in school administration.
I write books and articles to encourage and inspire teachers in their work with writers. Sometimes I forget this is real and not just a pipe dream.
My husband, Andy, and I have four kids, ages 11, 12, 13 and 15. We stay busy with sports, books, and cooking in the kitchen.

Inga Omondi – Technology Coordinator
Hi all! I’m the Tech Coordinator for The Lead Learners and I also provide professional development as an EL Coach for Tippecanoe Valley School Corporation in Akron, IN.
Over the past 12 years I’ve worked as an elementary classroom teacher, reading interventionist, and instructional coach. One of my passions is working with technology integration into the school and I believe that technology allows students to make connections locally and globally, to build relationships, and to share their work while learning the responsibility of good digital citizenship.
My husband, Phelix, and I have a passion for travel and aspire to take our two children, Owen and Olive, on many great adventures.
